gottahavvitt,
I sanded the new paint just enough to get the run out and or the orange peel flat. The orange peel i figured out was becausei did not have the air on my gun up high enough. The paint is not atomizing enough or in other words the gun is not breaking the paint into small enough drops. I also went with a slow reducer. The jobber sold me some me reducer and it seemed to flash (dry) to quickly leaving the orange peel effect. the slower reducer let the paint flow out or lay flat on the surface. It is going to be a matter of experimenting, try turning you air up on your gun and shoot a piece and see what happens. Did you go with the Trinity Paint ? good luck
later............

Thanks for the reply. I think my problem was the wrong size nozzle and cap so following your advice and looking at the links that Thegoat provided I am going to wet sand and try again today.
Despite the problems, I am having fun doing this and am confident I will be abble to acheive a nice result.

Here is a pic of my new tank with the new color. Should have the rest done by next weekend.
I am going to a swap meet in Connecticut tomorrw so Hopefully I will get the rest of the stuff I need so I can start putting it all back together

I just wanted to show a progress report on my first paint job.
It is not a home run but it is coming out a lot better than the 20 foot paint job I was willing to settle for.
In a few weeks I will be able to buff it out to get rid of some minor orange peeling and improve the shine just a tad.
I was also wondering if anyone here has used a gizmo that attaches to the end of a speedo cable that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy so I can use an electric speedo?
I can't use a mechanical because the dash is too low profile to fit the speedo and still be able to hook up the cable.
Any suggestions or ideas???
