Have it all back together and tested out good! Used dielectric compound on the connector, the old connection was filled with oil when I removed it. Had 14.5 volts at high idle when put back together then went for a nice 150 mile ride. Checked at the battery tender connection for voltage when I returned and had 13.8 at fast idle. Looking at the old stator you would think with the heat involved to burn this thing up so bad that it would cause a fire sitting in that oil bath????Go figure.

I just ordered a Cycle Electric voltage regulator for my '91 FLHS. The three year old "American Made" one bit the dust in about 10K miles. Don't ride in the rain unless forced to and never pressure wash or spray the bike with water hoses btw. Original stator as far as I know and bike has 65K miles on it. That being the case I can definitely see the wisdom in using an OEM stator when the time comes.
