Got a new part yeaterday (L-Joint, Fuel Inlet PN 27371-76A). The replacement is now solid brass.
The broken one was a bugger to remove, but the new one went right in.
Was having nightmares over the whole operation!! That ol' Eagle Iron carb is almost impossible to replace anymore!

Always a good feeling to make old iron work right again yourself, huh? Good job!

My old plastic fuel fitting broke on my V carb shortly after I got the bike in 2007, and I replaced it with a good brass one a few years ago... so much better than the POS stock plastic fitting. I don't really remember having any issues getting the old broken part out of the carb though... but as you said about your Vietnam service - it was a (relatively) long time ago!

A trick for ya: put the new fuel inlet elbow in the freezer overnight before you install it (take it out of the freezer and install promptly). Goes in really easy.

Knew about the freezer trick...thanks.
Goin' in was easy!!
Gettin' the old one out was the problem!!
Am visiting family in MD & tools are limited!

Just got back from a test run.
All's well that ends well, I guess!!
