offroader >yours sounds to me as the timing is retarded and firing before full compression that will cause all your symtons running hot missing caughing ets do a static time on it hope this helps
Check and clean both battery cables at the battery and also the ground cable to the frame.
Be sure the battery has a good charge.
The carb on my '98 Evo gave me real headache this past spring.
Remove, disassemble and thoroughly clean the carb and blow it out several times with compressed air and be sure that the float level is adjusted correctly.
With the carb off replacing the intake seals isn't much of a job and as old as they are they should be replaced and they're not very expensive.
Make sure you have fresh fuel.
I've had two bad ECM's in the past and each one acted differently but neither seemed to have only one cylinder firing but anything is possible.
mine turned out to be a bad intake mahifold gasket sucking air into rear cylinder .i bought some felpro gasket material and made my own and it runs better than it ever has
does if have a crank sensor if it does look at it its probably melted the what ever is packed in i have had this in south australia above 35 degres C it started back fireing spoke to the experts and wasted alot of money took cover of the crankcase sensor saw the damage and repaired it with quick drie araldite two pack glue works well 37-38 degrease C a few ride and i quit the ride istead of the electra glide i hope you solve it good luck i also made a transparant vented cover for the hot season so i can look at it without taking the cover of
