Default Dyno Jet Power Commander 3 input?

Happy turkey day to those in the states Anyone know if the FLHRI Dyno Jet Power Commander 3 - is worth the investment? Does this allow for fine tuning of the EFI carb via a laptop? Just curious, as I meet a local biker who is getting rid of his, for a decent price over new. My bike is a 97 Road King with MM EFI. I am contemplating a tuner vs. ditching the EFI all together - for a carb setup. A tuner should allow for a performance cam, right? I am new to fuel injected bikes, so bear with me

Not sure a PC3 works with MM EFI, I think they use a different system altogether but I could be wrong.

Although I don't know a lot about the MM system, I think Spanners is right.

PC3 USB (year specific) will work with a 97 EFI, It will allow fine tuning, timing adjustments and individual cylinder tuning. Here is the downfall, not many downloadable maps for M&M on the Dynojet website, the ones they have are set up for a stage 2 flashed ECM so only close and everytime you make a drastic upgrade, you will need to take the bike to a dynotuner facility to be "fine" tuned again, being close isn't always the answer for EFI. Daytona Sensors sell a Wego 3 that can record and make changes to the maps thru the PC3 to allow a owner tuning capability but took me a while to get a map built when the White Bike was EFI.

If you want to keep the EFI and add a PC3, make your upgrades - cam, exhaust, stroker kit, heads done or what you desire and take the bike to a dyno tuner to do it once and hope you get a good dyno tech, average price is around $300 or put the money towards a carb and ignition. Nothing wrong with installing a PC3 but make sure it is a USB and research dynotuners for one with a good reputation, just because someone is a authorized PowerCommander dealer doesn't mean they are good. Example: charge $300 and set the AFR's at 13.2 across the board and lets say 3 pulls, the bike runs good at wide open throttle, ok in midrange, they make a quick buck and you get a tuned bike that will suffer in mpg area, will they charge you again if your not happy? A good tuner can get max power a WOT, lean it down in the cruise area for mpg and many, many pulls to get it right, will provide you with a copy of the AFR map to show your where he set the AFR's in each area of runability or if your not ready for the EFI world, put a carb on it or leave it stock.

The M&M is a good system for it's intended use and a PC3 can fine tune it but adds another electrical item that can fail for a shutdown, ran a PC3 for 3 years with no problems and installed a CV before the current Mikuni, have been around EFI delivery systems for a while and the carbs will outperform the M&M, just have to call a spade a spade sometimes

Thanks for the input 1997bagger, Spanner & Monkeyboy22! From the detailed info that 1997bagger posted, I think I will just ditch the EFI and go with a Mikuni carb. Alot easier to troubleshoot, and cheaper in the long run! When I was looking for a late year Evo RK this past spring, I intended to go with a carbed bike - but coudn't locate one. Even on the web

cant go wrong with a mikuni. I ditched the MM efi on my 98 RKC, and it was the best thing ive done (so far) for performance.
