Yup, I almost made the same mistake while putting my motor back together after bored jugs, reworked heads, and high comp piston install. I was so close to closing up theories I had to tell myself to slow down, but I wanted to hit that button so bad and hear her fire up.

So yeah, those bolts are different lengths. I think that's your issue.

I don't agree with that diagnosis because he got them tight....none of you are reading the post properly....he did not find the washers loose and the bolts tight....the bolts were loose and he was able to tighten them....if the bolts were too long they would have bottomed out and not tightened.

^^ Yup, that's right mate. I could still turn the bolts easily with a socket on an extension.

I started the bike up last night & ran it for a few minutes, & it's not bubbling oil out of the join anymore so all looks sweet

And man those stock pipes are quiet...

The original post stated he tryed the bolts with fingers only, and the washers were loose. Then the OP said he put a socket on her and the bolts were tight and the washers were still loose.

I think that's what we all read.

I'm not a professional harley tech, but I know what I do from wrenching on my own bike, and was only suggesting another option to check while be has the rocker cover off.

.

In NZ "Bugger All Effort" means it was loose.....he couldn't turn it by hand because the notch in the rocker spindle can rest on the bolt and give it some resistance but with a socket on it turned easily.......as I said before, y'all not reading carefully....or maybe just reading it in the wrong language

Yup, wrong language. I thought it was a miss type from an auto correcting smart phone post. Batch, glad you fixed your ride man. Ride safe.
