Fried stator - heat on crank seal - crank seal failure - positive crankcase pressure - oil pushed into primary - drains back when engine is shut off - refills tank at start up - cycle starts over when running. As I pecked earlier, oil is going onto the primary, only place that can store that much oil. This is all theory but not much left.

The more I hoped my theory was right, the reality of it is that much oil can't get into the crank output area because of it's location higher in the case, it would be a splash area and needing to get past a bearing, now I'm really confused.

Do the stator screws go open through the case, maybe 1 fell out because the primary is the only place that can hold that much oil

He says it slobbers oil when the tank is empty....that makes me think its all ending up in the crankcase.....I would be checking the keys in the cam chest...the one on the crank and the one on the oil pump drive.....I've seen it before.

I am guessing it is the scavenger drive gear key. If it was the oil pump drive gear key it would not pump oil through the engine, but it seems to be doing that through the feed side of the pump ok. A very interesting problem for sure.

But he had the problem before the new pump was fitted.....so it must be an issue that exsited before the new punmp was fitted....this is a tricky fix!

First he need to make sure the return hose is clear and not kinked. Then maje sure the vent hose from the tank to the engine is ok also. if they are OK, then he needs to check all the pump keys. Once he has addressed these and corrects any problems found, all should be well. Almost forgot, hope he has the right oil pump and gaskets installed!!!

Oh yeah Spanners; I forgot that. The other odd thing (among many) is that it does not loose all the oil, it just goes somewhere else, and when adding one quart it is a quart over full after running if I understand it right. So it is apparently pumping oil both ways when it is cold, but not pumping back to the tank when hot. I have a lot more questions than answers. LOL
