Default EVo engine owners....need help

Evo forums dont get much attention but figured you guys might know for sure.

I have this oil leak that is getting the best of me. It leaks from the bottom of the cam cover. The Tq arm is bolted to the engine and the trans. This bolt goes thru the tq arm and into the engine. It leaks from there 100% and I can see it all day long leak. If the bike is standing str8 up or running it will leak all day long. WTF WHY?olt
I am pointing to the bolt which leaks from the cover!

Any idea why it would leak? DO you think after I removed the bolt for the tq arm that it tore the cam cover gasket and now its leaking. IT seriously looks like a thru bolt and will always leak oil. Like its a drain plug at that.

Here are pix

could I remove the tq arm?
Is it really needed?
Why is it leaking now but never before?
Is there a o-ring that should be on the bolt that goes into the cam cover to prevent leakage?
Im lost here

i have the same torque arm, no leaks

what I did was install the gasket (with a bit of permatex on it), then permatex the gasket then install the cam cover.

I put a drop of blue loctite on the end of each bolt, and install em.

this stuff is fantastic, I use it on all the threaded oil fittings too (oil pressure gauge, oil line fittings, etc etc).

Permatex 51813 (like loctice 518)

If the cover and the torque arm don't fit together very well it could leak. I would use some silicone RTV where the two meet and probably change the gasket while I was about it.

technical question for ya my friend

there are 3 bolts that attach the torque arm to the transmission....the middle bolt is a GIANT pain in my **** (it's covered by the clutch cable)

think I could get away with drilled that middle bolt hole straight through? (so the transmission bolt just passes clean through the torque arm)...it'd be nice if I could remove the arm / cam chest cover WITHOUT removing the transmission door (as of now, I have to remove the door so I can get at the bolt behind the clutch cable).

I cant imagine it'd weaken the whole system even a little bit. that bolt doesnt get side-loaded at all.

thanks guys. I just remove the clutch pedal on mine to remove the tq arm.

BUt as for the cam cover gasket. Can I just remove the cover with ease and replace the gasket or does cams/springs all fall out?

I have teflon on there right now with the bolt and will check again for leaks. I hope it dont leak but if it does then I will use right stuff silicone and let it sit over night. But im hoping I get lucky.

the gasket compresses...once its compressed, it PROBABLY wont seal properly...but ya wont know til ya try

and no, nothing will fall out. you do, however, have to take the load off of the lifters, so you'd have to collaspse (at least a little bit) your pushrods. it is a fair amount of work, but if it's leaking from around the gasket area, and not just the bolt, there's really no other way to fix it (that bolt hole doesnt go INTO the actual cam chest if i recall correctly...so if its leaking through the bolt, it's probably leaking from the gasket at that spot. teflon tape probably wont help (although a bit of high temp RTV in the bolt hole might)

Yes you can remove it...unless you are making enough HP to break the inner primary(doubtful)...it is just for looks anyway...another solution for a problem that doesn't exist.

ALright I took off the carlini tq arm and removed all the bolts and watched the lower bolt where im pointing to leak. I also bolted it down with OUT the tq arm and it still leaks.

Apparently I need a engine cover gasket for the cam housing. What do I need to do to replace this? vid or tutorial needed for sure!
