You're this far inside the engine, MAW keep going and pull the crank set apart.

From all the parts he is gonna have to replace and materials used I'm not entirely sure that the prices are gonna be that far apart.

Granted it ain't as much fun but there would be piece of mind.

So based on what you guys are saying it sounds like I have a couple of options.

1) Replace only what's necessary, reassemble and hope for the best. If it lasts great, if not I would be doing option 2

2) Stop now, take it to Harley and get a new(er) motor.

It would take me quite awhile (couple of years probably) to save up a few grand for option 2, so I'm afraid I'll have to go for option 1, and just do the best job I can within reason.

Think it's possible to get a few years out of it so that I could save up?

You have already pulled the motor once. The second time will be much easier.

Good luck.
I and I'm sure everyone here is rooting for you.

If you follow Spanners advice you might only get about 15 years out of it so do what you must!!

I agree! Get the parts and get er going! I can't believe you'll even be close to the cost of a new engine.....I could be mistaken though.

When you have time, make a list of the parts you'll need and post it.

I would bet that folks here would "pay some of them forward"............

I want to see that beauty running and running RIGHT SIR..............so you can ride by the PO's house and fly the flag at him............

Those bearings and stuff are cheap enough, nowhere near the cost of a re-man. Add in specialist services like big end and cam bush and its still way cheaper.

If you clean it all up and put it back together (which is what I think you'll end up doing) you must get that cam bush replaced or you still won't have any oil pressure.

Option 1 is viable and you'll get plenty of warning before it dies.

I just have this nagging doubt though....what if it wasn't sabotage?...you still haven't seen the crankpin but again, it will give you plenty of warning when it decides to fall apart and you won't need to do everything all over again...so get it back together and stop dicking around!!

A table spoon of lapping compound does stuff like that! Have you cut open the old oil filter?

HarDlife....

Bro.... Your are **** end deep into the motor, do it right. Or do just do it.

Douche the lower end out, replace the bearings, and ride the MF until lit screams.

IMHO, you are at a crossroad, I would go with the cheap end, and ride it until it pukes, sell it for parts and buy something else.

Really..... It's not like ya got your first whatever on this Harley...

Just trying to save you a bunch of $$$$$

Hard life (an appropriate name in this case),
If the race and bearing are scored as they are you definetly need to look at the other side. The rod bearings will look the same as the crank bearing so you might as well split the flywheels too. That way you can clean everything out and sleep well knowing the lower end is OK. After you have a reputable shop hone the races, replace the bearings and set the lower end up right (balancing, etc) then you can do the top end yourself.
You are in Fkorida so I would probably reccomend John Sach's as he is one of the fussiest machinist around there. Also he can "clean up" your heads as little or much as you want, and reccomend the best pieces to make a total package that works well together. It may cost a little more this way but you will end up with a scooter that will give you years of trouble free service if you do proper maintenance!!!
Hope this helps.
John

P.s. dont forget to flush out your complete oil system and take a hard look at the pump for scoring.
