Look on the last of the links that were posted earlier. Basically its a Softie but the swingarm pivots off the tranny like a Dyna and not off the frame.....imagine a Road King that mated with a Softail.
Did that (very strange)
as for the road king mating with a softail
that is a scary image!!!!!!!!!
FYI. This was done long time ago. It was called a rubbertail. Dyna drive train with softail frame set up. Had a mono shock above center on swing arm.
For you shaking heads, I've assembled one for a guy. I think its the cats ***.
Unfortuneatly the guy that designed it died.
i remember seeing them in the early 90s it had some fans but it was pricy and slow to get original frame and any replacements - i did not know who it was that invented it -
Mid 90s a company in japan had an alloy frame set up for the buells and the sporty 5 speed bikes with that same mono shock -- it was intended for racing ???? johnjzjz
Softail frames for FXR drivetrains used to be quite common...couldn't be too hard to find one
Tom, THANKS! I did some research on the CDC guys from the UK. Looks like a stand-up business. That FXR rubber mount softie frame runs about $2,451. Although I hesitate to go outside the U.S. (after sale service ect.) this set up may be an option. Softail look, EVO reliability/availability, and rubber mounted old bones comfort. But want to uncover as many "oh craps" as possible before I start dropping money into it.
Tex Hill, OK, my rattling teeth comment was out of line. I've never been on an EVO softie at ANY speed. (a heritage don't count. It was a twincam B) At any rate, yer suggestion about tryin' one prior is sound. I can always hit Barnett's HD and run a test drive. I have the dyna to ride so can take my time on the build. Nickel & dime it as the $ dribbles in... Thanks to all for inputs. I'm WAY ahead of where I was.
This is kinda where I'm goin' with all this. This one was on craig's list.
