Question since I'm not apart yet. I was looking at outer hubs and found one listed on eBay as matching my part number for a 98. This one has a retaining ring inside hat I don't show on the parts lookup. If there's a retaining ring it wouldn't be able to move like mine appears to have. Is this an update on later years?
Edit. **** think I messed it up. I pulled this internal ring off the other day, I don't know if the one I bought is even it. I can't find it listed anywhere. I was pulling it apart didn't realize this wasn't the one to remove. Damn it.
They all have that snap ring. If there wasn't a retainer of some type there the bearing and inner hubs would walk out of the outer hub. In term over a short amount of time it would press it's self apart.

. I messed up. Edited my last post. I can't find a listing for that ring. The one I ordered looks just like it or I thought
Oh boy, you can have fun getting that sucker back in! Unless you do it like I do....get a bolt and washers, put the bolt through all the springy parts and clamp it all up tight to flatten the spring discs.....insert, fit clip, remove bolt.
There isn't a part number because you are not supposed to remove it...
So you think it's the clutch hub? Or the compensator? Or both?
By the way..don't order anything! I have all the stuff you need. if it's the right stuff, it's yours!

. I know my comp spring pack is weak and it looks like I'm going to need a clutch hub at some point so I'd just assume replace it all with known good parts. I wanted to at least get mine tested as the fix before throwing your parts in, that way if it turns out to be internal engine I can get you your original parts back.
Also I think Pinetop is in need of some parts. If I'm back together and good I'm going to try and help him out with his clutch hub if he doesn't fix it before I get your parts in
