I would suspect the lifters. I'd pull them out and change them, try some straight weight heavy oil and see if that doesn't quiet it down. We change them out on rebuilds if they have 8,000 miles on them, cheap insurance, we use regular factory units, not SE.
I changed out the rear two lifters and the problem has been fixed. My dealer had everything I needed in stock. That's a first for me with my 14 year old Evo.
I have adjustable pushrods but still had to loosen the rocker boxes in order to remove and reinstall the intake pushrod. Even collapsed it was just a little to long to come out. I think I will replace the front two lifters soon, just for peace of mind.
