My buddy is going to be rebuilding his softtail. He is going to go to 95cu in and has the screamin eagle High compression heads. I am pretty sure he is going to go with gear driven cams. He want power at 6500 rpm. I told him I would make a post and ask for suggestions. I will have more details of what he has as soon as I get the email and update what he has. BTW it is just stage 1 88 cu in right now.
thanks
its a softtail rev limit is going toi be set at max 6200 rpm. most likely a beta "B" engine with Chain balancers not a good idea to set rev limit above the 6200 mark.....imo...
Need more info. compression , tytpe of ridin , where he lives??????
what type of tuner sert or carb???
more info please
George is asking the right questions. To do a build that your buddy will enjoy... you guys will NOT want to simply do a build that screams at 6500 and is a dog where you actually ride.
Give us the year of the bike, and the generic model, like... Heritage and if has a carb or fuel injection.
Tell us how the bike is ridden, where you live, etc. and we can, collectively, give you some pretty good suggestions on what to do or try.
Do you stay in town and 'bar hop'? Do you guys travel out of town. Ride 1-up or 2-up? Do you ride a lot of twistie type roads. Stay on expressways? Is gas mileage important to you? Do you want to cruise and pass that truck without downshifting? Want to beat everybody to the next traffic light?
Do you want the bike loud? Quiet? Easy to buy gas for? Or stay in town and have that one 'good' gas station?
Doing a build that puts a smile on his face EVERY DAY of the week, will take a little thought on you guys parts.
No need for SE heads and all of that for true good power. We can tell you how to make power, trust me!!!!!
I have the 'smallest' build here and I have 105 HP and 117 tq and is a Hot Rod Bagger!!!!!

A good combination of selected parts, can give the power from down low, to north of 6000 plus rpms.
Not hard to do, but questions such as rider weight, riding style, etc, need to be asked/answered in order to establish this.

If your buddy doesn't plan on welding the crank (particularly if '07 or later) and the balancer sprokets, he should forget about spinning her up to 6500rpm; he is asking for trouble. I don't know anyone that builds for power at 6500rpm except drag racers. I have heard of balanced drag race H-D engines that spin to 7200 but they are built for that abuse and are not long lived.
Your buddy needs to take the advice of previou posters, provide more information and be prepared to adjust his build plan.
thanks for the replies. He has an 06. It is a fuel injected heritage. We live in the Cleveland area so high octane gas is readily available. He is in the 250 to 270 range for weight. I know the heads he got were the screamin eagle high compression heads. He is getting the exact info off of them for me. I will tell him about boring to 98. He doesn't really tour a lot on the bike. Once in a while he will but mainly a bar hopper. Rarely rides 2 up. We have a variety of roads up here so that varies. Just depends on the day. I personally have a power commander v on mine. I am very happy with it but I am not sure what his plan is there. I told him about the 6200 rev limit and he said he is finding that out too. I know his bike is loud and I am sure it will stay that way.
thanks again for the replies.
