bike stalling

Default bike stalling

my 99 road king will stall out typically when sitting at a red light, or sometimes when i am shifting down(clutch in) when slowing the bike and approaching a stop. If i stay on the throttle a touch it doesnt happen. The bike kicks right over again when it stalls.

advice? it is carbeurated

I am no machanic but, it sounds like a fuel issue. Old gas, plugged fuel filter or something in the float bowl? Idle too low.

I'd start with cleaning the throttle position sensor.

ok so here is all what we have done
inside of tank was rusting and fouling the carb
acid etched the tank and lined it
put an inline fuel filter on it
rebuilt carb


just happened again ugggg
suggestions?
im hearing this can be the ignition,
corroded connection somewhere
let me know your thoughts?

Sorry, I have no solutions to suggest, but will be following your thread closely as my '04 FXDP is doing exactly the same thing. Not all the time, mind you, but enough to be a total pain and a bit embarassing.

I could believe it's in ignition wiring somewhere, as the PD that decommissioned my ride basically butchered the wiring harness to ensure none of the emergency equipment would work after auction. I had to do a lot of wiring work to get it to run worth a darn, lights to work, etc.

Best of luck, & please keep me posted with solution, as I've been unable to figure it out as well. I also rebuilt/rejeted the Keihin CV. Wouldn't run at all before that.

My dyna would shut down in motion on the highway. I racked my brain trying to find the problem. That's actually how I found this forum. Turned out to be a loose battery connection.
Good luck. I hope it's a simple fix. I would pm twizted biker. He is a wealth of knowledge on all things Harley. He might be able to help.

to me this sounds like a fuel delivery problem. like she doesn't come back on to the Idle circuit so well. I would pull the carb open it up and blow her out looking for debris. I would also replace intake manifold seals at this point it could be possible that there is not a good enough vacuum signal when returning to idle to draw the fuel from that circuit.
any time i dig into a carb i also replace my lines , filter and pull the petcock for inspection. I know its overkill , but wouldn't you rather know what to eliminate from your list if it still persists after this? anyways just a thought

thanks cafe sporty,
i left out that the petcock has been replaced as well.
just put about 300 miles on her and no issue, if i just give a touch of throttle when i feel it starting to sputter it solves it but i just know it shouldnt be dying out like this,
