Default Rush/Tuning/07 Heritage Help

I've read most if not all of the different posts in the forum regarding mufflers & tuning but I'm still confused.

First of all I have a 2007 Heritage FLSTC, my first Harley. I've done some minor mods but I'm now ready to change the muffler before spring comes in New Hampshire.

So far I've decided on the Rush muffler and 2" baffles and I haven't yet decided on the air cleaner. My confusion comes from what tuning needs to be done. I've read all the discussions regarding SERT vs. PCIII but I still don't understand.

I think that if I buy the SERT I would have to have the mufflers and SERT installed by the HD dealership, they would dyno it, but I wouldn't have the software and all changes would require that I bring it back to HD. Not a problem but I want to understand.

If I buy the PCIII I could install the mufflers and PCIII, download some canned maps, or even try to optimize it myself.

Being new I assume the dyno is a method by which the engine is stressed and fuel mixture, air, etc. are adjusted to maximize HP and torque.

Now this all makes sense but some are saying that even if you use the PCIII and a canned map that you should still have it dyno'd.

If I'm going to have it dyno'd anyway, wouldn't I be better off getting the SERT. The cost difference isn't an issue as I already have a lot invested in the bike.

I know that parts of this subject has been discussed in various ways but I would appreciate any guidance.

Thanks,

Denny

I bought the pipes, SE air cleaner, and SERT from my dealer and installed everything myself. I used the map that comes with the SERT that closely matched my setup. It runs fine and I may or may not get a dyno tune later, but it would only be to fine tune it.

Well said.

They key is if you want to fine tune your bike on a dyno. I have the Sert, se ac and originally the 07 se slip ons. They were put on at the dealer and dyno'd at my 1000 mile service. I just put the rush 2.00 on and when the weather breaks I will have it dyno'd again. My bike runs great but I want to make sure it's tuned properly for the most possible performance I can squeek out of it. Since I already paid for and the Sert It won't cost very much for the dyno again.

Yesterday I went to my local dealer to discuss this and he said that I could buy the Rush add-ons, he would sell me the SERT and SE A/C and he would install them. He seemed to be very knowledgable. But when I asked him about the Dyno, he said that their Dyno just broke down and that my system wouldn't need it unless I wanted to fine tune. I could get that done when they get a new Dyno.

i have the complete package from fuelmotousa.com. it includes the rush slip ons with your choice of baffles, k&N AIR FILTER AND PCIII. they also pre-program the pcIII with the correct map for your bike. I installed all of the above in about 2 hours and the bike runs great. i've only ridden about 10 miles due to the weather but i found no popping on decel and the initial tourque felt great. can't wait to open it up once the weather allows. can't hurt to give jamie a call there and explore your options.

I just ordered the same, the 1.75 baffles and it was $687.00 to Tucson. They said that it takes appx 3 days to get the pipes from Rush and i assume a week to get the whole kit and kabuttle from Fuelmoto. A friend has the 2" baffles and they sounded great. I had Thunderheaders on the roadking and loved it but now on the Ultra i want a little quieter so opted for the 1.75. Now my problem will be the throttle position adj. as the laptop i have just took a bad turn...no worky no mo.....so......hopefully out of the box all will be ok. Jamie said that only 1 out of 15 bikes tested needed the adj. and that i would know right away if mine was one of them. My fingers are crossed.
