98 Heritage. When rolling into the throttle after shifting to 2nd and 3rd, there is a different sound coming from sounds like the left side of the motor. It does it until rpms and speed pick up. I thought maybe it was a ping, but it really doesn't have that metallic sound I'm used to hearing from a ping. Just in case though I replaced the vacuum lines, plugs and plug wires. I don't have a vacuum gauge so I couldn't check what vacuum the VOES was switching, but I could verify it was switching. I also filled it with some 100 octane.
Still does it.
The bike seems to run great except an occasional backfire on start up when warm, (another post).
Could it possibly be pinging on 100 octane, and otherwise run great?
Not always, but it will make it run lean and lean causes ping. As does timing which has been mentioned.
Leaking intake wont make it run too badly but it will Idle high and low when the ingine is running temp. Spray carb cleaner around intake while Ideling. if intake is leaking it will effect Idle. I would bet your timing is too advanced.
