Banging my head 45 won’t start
fresh fuel, high octane chevron.
Timing on mark, Fully advanced on circuit timer used test light to ensure accuracy ( dead on )
checked both intake and exhaust valve for full movement. ( note new valves and valves springs.
And as said running totally out of ideas!!!
Does anyone believe in a possessed bike?😕
If not I do believe I’ve got on.
not enough advance in the distributor - no one asked how you set the advance - loosen the clamp at full advance turn it counterclockwise dist even more like 3/8 of an inch - see if when kicking it the pedal chuckles < from too much timing - try and start it
when they are retarded to much they wont start - you can with a 45 leave the timing at full advance un like a sporty that will snap your ankle doing that it does not care and does fire off easy - we set the advance from the back of the timing hole with the line as it makes it just a bit smoother to start and run and we leave the advance full all the time unless it chuckles when kicking then turn the distributor clockwise just a bit try again if it does not chuckle then thats the spot to start it at
I’ve had it set so well in the past that I didn’t even have to kick it very hard to get her running.
Cold or hot, just one little kick and BAM !! Running like a champ!! And than it just stop!
Valves working correctly, and getting spark.
I’ll check and recheck the timing again!
Big cigar when I find it.
thanks.
The frustrating thing is that I’ve checked and recheck everything on this machine but ha ha moment yet!!!
I’ll try a wire from timer to fame to see what happens!
Story /issue continues….
after putting my hand over the carb, hand chocking it and kicking many times I noticed the plugs are dry!!
So I would think that flooding out a motor would lead to wet plugs.
like I’ve said, I replaced the pistons, rings, valves and springs. I’ve got 62psi on each cylinder, getting some popping but no start and plugs not wet!
puzzled again.
Ok up date:
So I just dump some fuel down the carb, and clamped a ground to the circuit timer and she started.
So I’m thinking it was a grounding issue, so just to test the waters I removed the ground wire and she started!!!
Now I’m totally confused what’s going on, I did notice a lot of force coming out of carb when trying to start still not sure why this all started in the first place!
Anyone have any clue?

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
this is a very common issue with Indians as the dist bushing wears just a bit then the ground going away
a 45 i have done an added ground - i turned the dist around 180 so i did not have to remove it drilled a hole 8 /32 or 10/32 tap and attach a ground wire ran it to the generator nut under the cover
