For me, it's not the $25, it's how it went down. It doesn't feel very good. At first I thought I had ticked someone off and was given a "time out". But soon learned the news. I think I'll just wait a while and see how it goes. If rules were tightened up to stop some of the nasty disparaging that would be encouraging.
Spot on. I totally support the free market, but once again it appears that a globalist corporation which apparently leans left, has seized an opportunity to silence the voices of the right... I'm just calling it how I see it. You know what they say about opinions. I feel this way, because all they had to do was punish ONE paid troll. There was only ONE person really screwing up the POD. The POD will effectively die now that it's pay to play. IB chose a side. For now, it's not worth the $25. I think I'll go buy the wife lunch instead.
For me, this is probably good as now I'll have more time to go spend on ANOTHER FORUM reading about another hobby. I'll make sure than any forum that I might join going forward WILL NOT be IB affiliated. Bad move guys.
I'm having mixed feelings about it all. When Photobucket suddenly stopped supporting third party hosting it was very upsetting for so many people. I'm active in a couple of guitar forums and have technical expertise in that subject. Many of my threads on restoration projects, or modification projects were enjoyed by many and when suddenly they couldn't see the images it was upsetting. I refused to pay $300 just to host my images. After quite some time Photobucket offered additional packages and I ended up spending $100 basically so people could see they threads I had posted for the previous 10+ years.
In the HD forums I read much more than I post. I don't have the mechanical skill to join in technical conversations so I just read them. I post once in a while in the Softail forum but mostly if it has to do with a Rocker, and there aren't many of us on Rockers. I post in the QOTR, but again there aren't a lot of lady riders so that one isn't very busy. I do post in the Gun Enthusiast and PGR sections and once in a while in the General and Off Topic. I guess I'll see ya'll in that area.

Perfectly stated Sarah. I was trying to figure out how to say how I felt and you just did. I get a fair amount of good info from various forums in here. Would have gladly paid the $25.00 if HD Forums had managed to find a decent way of moving toward asking everyone to pay or lose the ability to comment anywhere in here. But the way they are doing it is effed up and insulting.
As this thread is in Forum Issues..... I have an issue or two.
First.... you should be able to press the name on a post, and put them on ignore without having to go through the process of typing there name in an ignore place.
Second .... when they are ON ignore, their OP threads disappear from the list.
There was only ONE person really screwing up the POD.
Nada...there were a quite few people that anytime anyone said something they didn't like...they would tell them to choke on a **** or suck a **** kinda like a bunch of potty mouth kindergarteners.
It really stinks that a few, very few that dont even own a motorcycle screw it up for all.
I think we should track them down and Stab Um.
Where`s Cowboy Rob when you need him?

Yep, raise taxes. I didn't realize the forum was Democrat.
Me neither. Now we know.

Too bad we live so far from one another, Sarah. You`re the best.

So, even if that`s true, did you bother to count the lies the left has told via of it`s endless resources, ie., the MSM, Soros`s enterprises, DOJ, FBI, and on, and on....... Glass houses/stones.....

At any rate most of those that do POD posts regularly are the same ones who are conspicuously absent from the actual motorcycle sections even though contributing to motorcycle related threads is a fundamental rule for continued membership. It's just a shame that mods weren't as diligent about enforcing that rule as they sometimes are quick to point out lesser transgressions. I did giggle a bit though because it reminds me of being a child in early grammar school. When a couple of kids became overly rambunctious we all had to put our heads down on the desks for awhile. So in honor of that memory I shall treat myself to a graham cracker and a carton of milk.
I have owned and managed several forums, both gaming and automotive related. I paid for the web hosting out of my own pocket, I used canned forum software just like this one, and relied on voluntary contributions from members to keep it running, monetarily and as moderators. Absolutely NO adverting or corporate sponsorship. These were popular forums. I did it for the communities. We also had an open discussion forum, and it was self-policed by the membership and never got too far out of hand. You could say anything you wanted to as long as there were no personal attacks. Those that violated were booted without warning, IP banned from re-creating a new login.
This forum is designed to make money. IB has some good forums, but they're in it for the money. The BEST forums are independent in nature; for the people, by the people.
Greed takes it's toll once again. I understand that by restricting POD posting to paid-membership only, a goal is achieved: keep out the always-negative riffraff. Like Sarah, it isn't about the money for me. It kind of feels like extortion. I'm going to have to ponder my participation here.
