We lucked out yesterday. We left the house at 7am and it was mid 70s. Got home at 10:45. The last 5 miles you could feel the heat building fast. Was in the pool by 11:15 and ribs were on the smoker at 1:00. Like the Ice Cube song, "It was a good day".
There has been a heat wave all over California for the last few days. I usually go for a ride with friends most Sundays but we missed the last couple of Sundays because there was thick smoke in the air from wildfires and it was unhealthy to be outside. Yesterday the air was a bit better so even though it was hot, we decided to ride. Mostly we stuck to the coast on Highway 1. That was a little cooler. But we had to go inland to get home and the thermometer on my friends Ultra reached 107 in the sun riding north on I280 a bit south of San Francisco. That was brutal. I just rested the rest of the day once I got home.
Living in Austin TX. it gets very hot for a long time. Riding out in 100 degree weather is not too bad but like you said it gets really hot when you stop. Being from nice cold England 85 degrees is pushing it.
The wife and I went for a 250 mile ride yesterday. It was 90 degrees which is about as hot as I want to ride in.
It doesn't get that hot here too often and the bike never got overheated but damn it was uncomfortable any time we stopped.
What the hottest temp you've ever hidden in?
Do you have a temp that is just too damned hot ride in?
I live in Las Vegas... haven't hit the 'to hot to ride' temp yet.
