RIP Larry, my heartfelt condolences to his family, I'm so sorry it ended this way.

I have complete respect for Larry, so much so that I'm not posting nonsense speculation of what he might have done or not done. There are some who cast aspersions in the way of pointing out what they *surmise* he did wrong. The truth is that none of us know. But, I'm not inclined to assume that he did ANYTHING wrong. He was apparently a kind, genuine man enjoying life. I will not assume anything other than that without proper evidence, and I'll not sit idly by while certain people here suggest that somehow Larry instigated this horrific outcome.

^This bears repeating^

Nobody knows what happened except the scum involved in the crime. The total truth will never see the light of day so what's the point in supposing what the guy may or may not have done to put himself in the position of being murdered? Even worse; what's point of debating the legal mechanics of a made up, pulled out of the air scenario? I swear by all that's holy I wish some of the douche bags around here could be given one moment of clarity to see how they really are, as opposed to the projected image they have of themselves.

If this pissed you off and think it applies to you, it does; this is your moment of clarity.

RIP Larry. I hope there's motorcycles and good two lane roads wherever you are.

Well said Twizted.

R.I.P. Larry Weaver, my thoughts and prayers go out to Larry's family.

I have to wonder if the night clerk at the hotel had made a call and tipped them off about his bike parked out back. Seems too convenient putting him in a room at the back and on the second floor.

Had a similar thing going on at a nearby hotel. Close to an interstate. It took a while to catch the clerk. But basically he would notify his friends when out of state wealthy people checked in. Their cars were either stolen or broken into during the night. I guess they got greedy and started doing it too regularly. A couple of them were caught and someone got a deal to squeal on the clerk who was getting a share of the stolen goods.

The thieves were in the middle of a bike theft. Period. That's what bike thieves do, steal bikes for easy cash. Not intentionally murder random people for nothing.
Larry instigated and escalated the altercation coming down running toward the thieves trying to stop them from stealing his beloved Harley (totally understandable and the laws SUCK!)-he was overcome and taken out and it makes me sick to think about it.
If he had a firearm, and initiated this confrontation, trying to stop them from stealing his bike, he is now the initiator of this conflict-not the scumbags...
During a scuffle, he is liable bring a FIREARM to this confrontation in a public area without probable cause (no one was coming into his home to harm him or his family and teing to protect them). Period, and he would be incarcerated and most likely sued for firing at the low lifes ripping off his INSURED piece or property.
Sucks, but that is how the law is written...
What makes you think everyone has full coverage insurance?

This seems to be your main argument for letting these M'effers do as they please.

Larry was a friend of mine, and I'm going to miss him. What happened to him is a damn shame, and those responsible will be brought to justice. Anyone that knew him, was a friend of his, and they too will miss him.

But some of you posting, arguing in this thread, are jackasses. If you knew Larry, you'd know he never argued with anyone. Many friends of the riding community, and friends and family from his hometown can also see what you're typing, and it's damn disrespectful.

Out of respect for our fallen brother, if you don't have anything positive to add to this thread, then just STFU. Don't say anything else. Just stop.

For everyone else, I encourage you to share your pics of Larry, and the good memories you have, so we can all begin the healing process.

Rest in peace, brother. You will be missed by many.

While I agree on the idea that this is about Larry, this thread, it is also about everyone too. If people do not use history to guide their judgement they have to learn some other way. The history, whatever the specifics - and yes, we do not completely know and probably no one ever will know exactly what happened (nobody will trust the accused) - but that history is a valuable thing to know so far as it can be known.

Polybius wrote: “For it is history alone which without causing us harm enables us to judge what is the best course in any situation or circumstance.”

He's saying that the dead have paid the price for us, the living, and that we ought to honor the dead by studying their lives and acts.

Out of respect and focus maybe the analysis ought to take place elsewhere. I agree. But the study of what happened is itself also important, wherever it takes place.

I know I take the lesson that Larry has given us to heart and I thank his spirit for it!

again, RIP Larry
