Kind of a bittersweet day. I have had this bike for 9 years and put about 50 K miles on it. Between my back and the wife's sciatic nerve, we decided to move up to a bagger.
I didn't get as much as I hoped for it but it is 20 years old and had 72K miles on it.
Best advise I got from the guy at the Harley dealer... Do you want to get what it is worth or do you want to sell it? He helped me with the reality of the market.
Good news... I found a 2005 Electra Glide in extra clean shape for an affordable price so I won't be without a bike long.
That's how I felt when I traded in my '91 EVO Softail on my '15 Limited Low. I didn't get near what it was worth but it was time to move on, and no space in the garage so I could take my time selling it.
The pain goes away soon enough

This remark has nothing to do with your bike swap. But your wife's sciatica can be addressed. I've had bad back issues for the last ten years due to being cooped up,in a cockpit for that time. I recently found a chiropractor who uses a technique developed by a guy with the last name ***....so of course the technique or discipline if you will is "The *** table and activator method". Look it up in your area. Google "chiropractor ***". It's been a life saver.

i get what he is saying, but really, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay. if you price it 'what it's worth, it will sell'. if you price it what you 'think' it's worth, it'll sit forever.
myself, i'd rather just go with trade in. i've always managed to get within a couple of hundred what i would have sold it for outright, and with the tax break involved, i actually came out ahead. plus, lot less muss and fuss.
Well, if two up riding with the wife is as important to you as it is to me, the larger, more comfortable touring bike will make a world of difference. Spend time adjusting those air shocks. Finding that sweet spot when riding two up, really makes a difference.
