Default Almost Afraid To Ask, But...

Not owning a Milwaukee 8 engine, and being at the very beginning of the learning curve regarding the acquisition of information and on top of that contemplating the purchase of a 114 Softail...

I now own a Twin Cam 102 "A" engine and also once owned a 96 Twin Cam "B" engine. When performing oil changes, I used the total purge Rogue Chopper Scavenger oil change system for which I needed two different systems for the two different engines to extract the sumped oil that does not come out during the standard oil changes. Is this advisable or necessary with the M8 engine(s)?
  • Has anything substantially changed with regard to type and kinds of oil recommended, break in procedure, dos and don'ts etc?? I don't want to initiate (yet) another "which oil is best" thread... Just wondering out loud.

Barring some kind of contamination, I don't think scavenging oil is necessary. There's plenty of high mile bikes out there with no problems that got all those miles on nothing more than regular oil changes.

M8 break-in and operation are the same as with the Twin-Cam, or even the Evo for that matter. It'll just be a lot more fun on your 114!

Might be a moot point, if the company that makes the product doesn't make one yet to fit the M8 engines.

Don't know much about those bikes, but I'd guess that oil type and break in is the same as for the twin cam engines. Don't think HD has released any oil that is specific to the M8.

It's not advisable or necessary with the engines you're using it on now.

I know it is not necessary, but when that remaining quart of sludge is purged after the initial oil change, it looks even worse than the company's commercials. Yet the oils I use are very high quality synthetic oils and I always change oil well before the recommended intervals. Despite this, yeech!!!!

M8 break in is same technique, but more dramatic results. The gear driven components are tight on these motors and need to wear in together. My bike is a totally different beast after the first 1,000 miles.
