Default Using the PIN code to deactivate the security system

I have an older security system (68922-00D) which has the button style FOB.

I am trying to use the PIN code to deactivate the security system. I have a FOB now but in case of emergency I need to be able to use the PIN code to deactivate the security system.

The system has a installed pin code and with a FOB present I can display and change it with no problem. I have tested other functions of the module with no apparent failures.

The FOB is good with a new battery but should not come into play since the PIN is designed to disable the system w/o a FOB present.

Incidentally I originally assumed the security system module was bad when I first encountered the issue so I ordered and installed a second one - 68922-00D. This did not fix the problem.

This system has been on the bike for maybe 15 years and used to work. I just decided to try the PIN method of deactivation to verify it is still working. which to my surprise does not.

Here is what happens when I attempt to use the PIN method of security system disablement.

.These procedures are straight from the Owners manual.

1. The security system is enabled to start

2. Ignition switch to ACC

3. Press and hold both turn signals

4. I immediately get a warning BEEP followed by a 2-3 second pause

5. followed by a second warning beep followed by a 2-3 second pause

6. Then all hell breaks loose not allowing me to enter the PIN code.

Anyone have any words of wisdom as to what I could be doing wrong and what I should to correct the problem?

Switch should be in the "on" position I think not Acc

Try not sitting on the bike, stand beside it so you are not moving the bike when trying to enter the code. Any movement will set the alarm off even when using the security code instead of the fob.

They are a super PITA. I just went through this 2 or 3 weeks ago trying to figure out what the PIN was in my bike's system from previous owner. I finally got it - but gave up on trying to change it for now.
It's a very tedious task. As for what you might have going on - you have to do the functions fast. You have to pay total attention to the light symbol on the tank panel - not the blinkers. Trying to watch the blinkers and all the crap they are doing will mess you up.

Agree. PITA. had to try more than several times to set a PIN but finally managed to do it so I know a PIN is installed and available. Still can't use the method of PIN entry to disable the security system,

Went through the thread and basically is in agreement with what I have been trying. No Joy though.
