I have one of these dealers that won't install anything that they didn't sell you. I bought a sert from them and the se a/c but I bought the D&D 2/1 from Shooter64 because it was a good price. I have to put the exhaust on and trailer it to the dealer to have the sert downloaded and dynoed. Well I'm getting tired of waiting to get dyno time, it's going to be another 2 weeks so here's my question. If I put the exhaust,a/c is there a canned map I can install myself that I can get by with till I can get it dynoed? I don't care to buy the cables and what it takes to do it, I'm just not sure I'm smart enough to get it loaded and not make a mess of it. I'm ok with computers but just don't want to screw it up. Has anyone done it on a 08 and have an opinion? Thanks
Just load the CD that comes with the SERT into your laptop/pc. It has a directory of all the canned maps for all the major industry components. Should be able to find a damned close map if not perfect for your equipment.
Edit to add.....
There is also a PDF file on the SERT CD which is the SERT Manual. Download it / print it. Its pretty easy reading and not super technical. Read the manual and if you have a basic sense of computer savvy, you will probably be able to tune the bike as good if not better then some tech at a dealership. It truly isn't rocket science.
Just did it on an 08 this weekend. Once the CD is loaded, there are two sets of documentation; one describing how to run the application, the other that list what map should be used (OEM callibration file information.pdf). In my case it was the 1580 with SE AC and shorty performance duals I think. Once you find what map it is, bring up the "Tuning Mode" application and load that map. Plug the bike in and hit "File" >> "Program ECM" and then follow the directions.
I've been thinking of doing this, too. I have the sert, but I can't find a dealer that will let me watch. If I can't see what's going on with my bike, they can kiss my ***. I'm not paying those ridiculous prices for installation, if i can't watch the process. $150.00 just to hook up the cables, and $80+/hr for dyno runs (a few shops told me minimum 3 hours). F--- THEM!
I installed the SE AC and the D&D Fatcat and installed my SERT. I used map #100 (08 Touring with race exhaust). I had minimal to no pops. I then had it dyno'd a week or two later. You will need to buy or borrow the cables to download to the bike.
