Rear tire looked a little low yesterday so I went up to the tire shop to get some air in it. Guy asked me if I had checked it for nails. I told em I just hadn't checked the air since last summer and it was probably just from the cold air. Went out to the garage this morning and the tire looked low again. I looked at it real close this time and sure enough, a brad was in the tread. None of the shops would patch it cause it would be dangerous to ride. I wanted to get a 150 tire then as the opportunity presented itself. Parts guy warned me about close clearance under the fender. I told him I just put a lowering kit on the bike a couple nights ago. Ohhhhhhhh, well that's different now. The 150 would shred itself on the protrusions under the fender. So, looks like another Dunlap 130 going into service. I've only got about 4K on the other tire before the nail wasted it.
I suggest you make it a habit of checking your tires regularly, you only have two between you and the road. They will last longer too if properly inflated.

Tubless? Then just plug it and ride on. If you're not comfortable with plugging then remove and patch from inside, either way tire is not "wasted" because of nail.
Tubed? Replace tube and ride on.
If your not planning on setting any land speed records on your HD, then a patch correctly applied would get you where your going and home again. Its not recommended because of the safety factor....but it aint nothing I aint never done, and I'm still here.
Now though at 45 years old....and with a few coins in my pocket.....chances are I would be shopping for a nice Metzler Marathon.......hell you only live once, and you sure cant take your money with you...so you may as well spend it on whatever makes you the most happy......for me my bikes usually top the list.

Wow, I checked your spark plugs, and they are "dirty". I will sell you a couple to put in. Been riding for 42 yrs this year. I have patched more tires than a lot of the folks on here have ridden on. I carry a patch kit and tire irons plus a bead breaker when I go to Sturgis. Never fixed one of my own, but I can tell you, there are a lot of bikes that made it "all" the way home, and then some with a "GUMBY" patch on a tire. And I'll patch a tube provided I can get the rightpatch cement. Granted, if you caught a railroad spike, or tear the sidewall up, you're toast. But a nail in the tread?
I have ridden on patched and plugged tires for years. When I was younger it was the difference between eating or getting to work. I bought the tire protection plan from Harley but haven't had to use it yet. One good pothole around here and that will change.
We have tons of nails here in Arizona. It's like someone is fvcking throwing out the door as they drive in new housing areas. I've had to replace 3 tires on my 2006 Lexus that I bought in November of '06 already. Talk about pi$$ing me off. So far, knock on wood, have not had to replace the HD tire due to nails....
