Someone (my have even been here, I just don't remember) told me to put some masking tape on the windshield at the height you think you would like. Then, ride with the tape there and see if it's at the right height. If it is, good, you have your mark. If not, move it and try again. The worse thing that'll happen is people trying to figure out why you have tape on your windshield like Urkel.

Proper height for the shield is typically between the tip and the bridge of your nose.

Right on the money.
Tape and ride first, change if needed.
Old adage, measure twice, cut once is a good rule here.
&nbsp\\;
Mask both side before cutting.&nbsp\\; I suggest using a dremel or rotozip, some say jigsaw and a fine blade.&nbsp\\; It's been my experience if you use a jigsaw, you still could end up with chatter marks and a rougher edge than if you use a rotozip or dremel.
Take your pick, either work fine.

I second the advise to mask both sides.&nbsp\\; I only masked the outside, and did fine during the cut (used a jig saw).&nbsp\\; When I used my orbital sander to smooth the edges, though, I somehow touched the sanding pad to the inside of the top edge of the shield for just a sec...ended up with a couple of little swirly scratches.
