Hi guy's I just want to find out if its safe to put a Chevron fuel injector cleaner on my 09 RK. I just bought a box of injector cleaner in Costco for my cars& truck for winter is it safe to put some on my bike.
I use a BG supercharge which is for motorcycles so I don't see why you couldn't use the Chevron stuff. You would only need a quarter of the bottle though since you are treating 5 or 6 gallons of gas.
Some cleaners can melt the coating they use over the coil wire or the magnetic pulse injector. So, if the chemical makes the covering all goo and that tiny wire touches the wire it closely lays next to is a short at the coil windings.
That is one caution thinking some cleaner can do it all is your wallet is gonna have a bad day down the road you had to clean a perfectly good running engine.
I am not a big fan of additives in my engine or fuel. I don't winterize--we only have a month of broken winter. I use the premium lubricants to begin with and I buy high octane fuel from a reputable dealer who moves a lot of fuel. That doesn't mean I will not use additives but I use them sparingly. I haven't seen too many fuel injector problems on this web site.
I am a 'news' junkie, and love to read. I read a lot of tech reports, blah, blah.
I also wrench a bit. IMFUO, the only injector cleaner I personally will atest to working, is Gunk Fuel Injector Cleaner. The rest are "Mother's Helpers" (don't worry pills) It's the 'shellac' that your trying to get off with these products, and most are just 'more of the same' product.
I have used Gunk FIC as carb solvent to soak carbs in.
But I do run Sea Foam in ALL my engines, regularly. That too, will help keep the shellac/varnish from forming. Just don't overdo it, more is NOT better when it comes to Sea Foam. And I didn't read that.
Personally, I believe gas has all the FI cleaner in it you need. My FI bike is 9 years old and has 73k miles on it. It still runs just fine.
By far the largest majority of vehicles on the road are FI now. Gas companies started adding the needed detergents 2 decades ago. Think about all of the people out there that are not obsessed with motor vehicles, unlike us, that don't don't do anything but add gas. Their cars aren't clogging up and leaving them stranded.
