Default RE: Customize Helmet - DOT Sticker

huff,

Extra "spare" DOT stickers would be nice to have around...

I checked all 6 of my helmets and all had a DOT sticker on the back and a sticker/label on the inside which, to paraphrase, stated you will still die from head injury etc... However, only 1 of the 6 had anything written about DOT standards on the inside sticker. One is a Skid Lid and another is one of the $150 HD helmets... One of the cheaper ATV helmets made in Tawain actually was the one which had a reference to DOT rules.

My state doesn't have a helmet law, but I work for a civilian contractor on a DoD installation and they have a helmet law and more. You can see the gate guards ticking off the list of "gotta haves" as I roll up to the gate. 1) DoD decal, 2) DoD ID, 3) boots, 4) gloves, 5) eye protection, 6) long pants and sleeves, 7) refective vest or belt, and 8) DOT approved helmet. They will actually walk around and look for the DOT sticker. I would hate to have my sticker worn off because they would then turn me around and not allow me to enter.

a DOT sticker is only required to be on a helmet at new point of sale to a customer so he will know it's "approved". the NHSTA has a blurb in their site and Easyrider magazine has covered this too a few years ago. takes a jerk officer to worry about it unless you are stopped for something else. my DOT sticker says "Department Of Turkeys."

The DOT stickers I got from them are not exactly as shown in the pictures on that site, but I have seen stickers just like the ones I got from them. Here is a pic of the helmet ...

Both of my legal helmets have DOT written on the back in different script (not stickers). I put 1/2" letter stickers on my novelty helmet. I got them from my wifes scrapbook supplies.
