I was a young man of 52 when this thread started but now at 59 I guess I can comment on the original premise, which I believe was something about, if you are old you have to/should ride a bagger? Well as far as I am concerned, I aint gonna do it. I don't like em. I've ridden quite a few and they just are not my style. As to the idea that they are somehow more comfortable? Than what? You can customize just about any bike to be comfortable for your individual style. I guess I am just not wired to ride a Lazy-Boy recliner on wheels. Not that theres anything wrong if you ARE wired that way, but I am sticking with my Dyna.

53 here but with 35 years as an offshore boat captain those years are like dog years, so that makes me 263. I have a Dyna and a Road King, the Dyna is my baby, the RK is great on long rides but love the Dyna.

I am 75 and typically ride 30,000+ miles per year. This year has been exceptional and I am just shy of 37,000 miles so far.

I ride all families of HD from the Street 750 to a Road Glide Ultra CVO. For drag racing I have a 13 Street Bob with a 120R. Old coots rule!

I am 72 and ride with guys in their 60's to 80's. As long as my health and reflexes hold out and I have confidence in my ability to appropriately and effectively control my XL883L Sportster I will continue to ride and yes, I do have bags on it, you never know if you might need to pick up something. BTW, I also carry four 6 inch traffic cones and a first aid kit in one of the bags.

As I have grown older, I have taken precautions, e.g., I am strictly ATGATT and have added a Headlight and Brake Light Modulater to be more easily seen by others on the road. I also ride with Bohn Body Armor under my Draggin' Kevlar lined jeans and I have just replaced my Scorpion EXO-900 helmet with a new Scorpion EXO-GT3000. I also wear a mesh riding jacket with elbow, shoulder and back armor, proper riding boots and gloves. I have also added a National Cycle Wind Screen, Highway Bars and a 120 Decibel air horn to get the attention of the stupid and un-aware, I call it my Voice of G-d Air Horn... Works like a charm every time.

Bottom Line: I would much rather spend the money on gear than doctors.

I'm considering copying this post, and using it to start an entirely new thread.

Why would anyone wait until they're "mature" before adopting this viewpoint? Why wouldn't you want to think like this when you're still young, so you can live long enough to ride in your 70's?

What a great post!

56 and I'm always wearing gear.

Every time I think about riding without it, I just KNOW that this ride will be the one where my ex-wife succeeds in running me down! On goes the gear.

Be safe!

I may as well add to this old thread...I'm 63 yrs. young and prefer to ride a Dyna Low Rider. I don't do any long distance riding so I have no interest in a bagger bike.

I did purchase a new 2015 Honda 500X last month for a second bike to play around with and couldn't be happier. It weighs 235 lbs. less than the Low Rider and is a completely different riding experience. So far, I've put 1230 miles on it in the last 26 days and I gotta tell ya', damn this bike is fun to ride.

68 and counting. No bagger here. Sporty and Dyna all the way. Latest is a 2015 FXDL. Put 100+ on it today. I love living in SoCal where I can ride every day.
See you guys on the road!

I'll throw in my two cents, at 68. I rode an 09 EGC for awhile but came back to my 08 Dyna SGC... it does have bags. Took a Sunday morning 150 mile ride today and don't want to stop.

I'm 59 and my little baby brother is 57. He has been riding for about 15 years, I have been riding about 45. He is and always has been ATGATT, me, I'm what we have come to describe as a 'Gonzo Rider'. Boots, jeans, T-shirt, goggles, and rubber bands for my hair. Thats about it. I have always believed, those that dress for the crash are more likely to get in one. It has definitely been the case for me and my brother.
I don't see myself changing my attitude as I get older either.
