Default Want to change the cam myself

I have an evo motor (1996 FXDWG) and I want to change the cam myself. I will be installing a Andrews EV-27 cam ,new lifters and push rods. How hard of a job is it ?? I have changed a top end ie pistons etc. So what can I expect !!

As said above, it is not a bad job at all. I changed out my cam brg. a few weeks ago with a Torrington B-138, and went with Harley Screaming Eagle quick install push rods so that I did not have to take the top end apart. You can cut out the old push rods with bolt cutters if you go that route. About the only difference you would have is changing the cam gear. Most of the guys that change cams have their old cam gear pressed off and installed on the new cam, as it will be the right size. The new cam gear may or may not be the right size. The only other things I would say are to be sure the little nylon washer spacer is on the breather gear when you put it back together, and be sure you peal the little "O" ring shims off of the lower "O"rings before you install them and the pushrods. It took me about a day to do mine, but I could do it a lot quicker now. I did not notice the "O"ring shims until I had the pushrods in and adjusted. "Bummers" Also as said above, lots of help on the EVO board.

One other thing I forgot to mention, your new cam will need a shim of around .050" behind it, as the new cams are about that much shorter than the stock cams. Not sure, but they might come with the new cam.

Any decent weekend mechanic can easily handle a cam swap, in any Harley motor.

running that cam ( plus andrews ez install cr-mo pushrods and jims lifters) in a 98 wideglide. you will LOVE that cam if you can get the carb to hold up its end in the game. I ended up tossing mine for a S&S but I was never happy with my carb anyway.
