For rings only break in is go easy on her for 50 miles just so all the new stuff can get acquainted then ride it . If you do a bore & pistons then you play the baby it game for a while if you want to live a nice long life doing what it's supposed to . I do a lot R&R work for for guys who believe your style is best , it isn't . Good luck bud I hate chasing gremlins like your doing but some bikes you never find out what it was .
If you keep the pipes think about a set of revision cones there cheap and will help but will take a little playing with the carb to get it right .

OK! have not rode it yet, but have 165 lbs a hole, she's spittin fire an ready to chew my foot off. Sounds right and run it thru 3 heat cycles . She's right on an tight. An the bike runs great too! Did a hillbilly port job on the heads and found it had no spacer on the breather gear, but tight as hell and I'm takin her out tomorrow night. Thanks again for the help guys. This b#$ch is on the road.
