well, unless my math is way off, sounds like you did a 36 month loan which is gonna give you higher payments, depending on the amount you financed. but just guessing $300 a month on payments, then you're looking at 3 payments plus payoff......SNIP
.
True on the 36 month terms but Way off on the monthly, In my 10 month Riding Season I almost spend more on gas than my Monthly payment.....
Only one more payment left for me.Been writing checks and using snailmail for the last 14 months. No problems.
I did make two payments thru their website because i forgot to mail the payments.I think the fees were $12 each.
I had mine set up at HDFS and made a few payments that way. I then added my bike payment to my "bill pay" online from my checking account just to keep everything in one place. Looks like I'll be going back to paying HDFS directly. It may be "only" $6, but these fees really start to add up.
" They cannot force you to pay through their website, just use online banking through your bank and pay them when you want to. If they accept electronic payment, your bank will send it that way, if they don't your bank will automatically send a paper check. Either way, you don't even have to pay for the stamp.
I would also imagine that nothing in the loan agreement states how the payment is made, so them changing their rules on paying through their website probably does not go against anything that was signed or agreed on. Most loans just say they need payment receive by x date each month.
I financed through HD, have always paid through my banks online bill payment and never had a problem. Also have not heard anything from them about changing any payment terms, of course I've never used THEIR website to pay a bill."
Here is an excerpt from the HD Email:
Dear John Vxxxxxxx,
Since there have been online motorcycle loan payment(s) made to your Harley-Davidson Credit loan account in the past, we wanted to make you aware of a change to this process.
"Effective February 9, 2012, all Harley-Davidson Credit customers will be required to login to MyHDFS.com for making online payments to your loan. This process change maximizes our ability to protect your personal account information through the use of increased security and authentication measures."
Furthermore, when you log on it explains there is a 6.00 fee unless you allow them to debit your account on a specific date.
You know, I'm a lawyer for a living and make another few thousand a year from the Army reserve and I have an undergraduate degree in accounting - but when I read you guys talking about any financial issue, all I can think is "wow, those Harley riders must have a LOT of money...and they're really old and tight with a dollar."
Agreed. First they tell you to "go green" by eliminating paper and getting online statements, and then to "go green" and save money by eliminating the need for paper checks, envelopes and stamps. Then they want to charge you for doing so. And $6 per payment is ridiculous. That would be enough for me to pay with a check.

PLEASE NOTE: This change will not affect existing recurring payment customers. Your recurring payment will continue to process as scheduled until you stop it or your loan is paid off in full. This change only impacts customers that make one-time payments through DirectPay.

Using your banks billpay service, is not the same as using the HDFS website.
HDFS are ******** pure and simple. But, aren't they all? Make the loan and the payments through your local bank and banker. If there is a problem or a "new" rule, you can drive down there, slam your fist on his or her desk and shout, WTF!!!!!!!
