Default HD Heated Grips?

Hi have any of you installed your own HD heated hand grips? If so how was it?
Im looking to install a set of the HD aileron heated grip on my 05' electra glide classic Im capable of doing most installs myself electrically and mechanically however I was looking at HD's website at the install instructions and it looks like it might be a nightmare? If anyone could has done them themselves and could chime in with some tips or advice or even maybe a link to a thread on it that would be great.......................

Thanx

I recall a number posts about HD heated grips failing in short order. Use the Search function to find them.

Default Heated Grips have design flaw

Many people including myself have had the throttle side outer part slide off of the inner part. HD use silicone to hold them together and it breaks down. I only used mine about 10 times. When this happens you cannot slide it back on as all the heating wires release and cannot be rewound into the inside of the outer part. After spending all the money for these and the labor to install them I now have to look to aftermarket ones. See picture.

I had the aileron heated grips and was not a fan of them. My palms stayed nice and toasty while my fingers froze. They were on the bike when I bought it, but when I asked the dealership about removing them they wanted 2.5 hours labor to do it. I just had them pull the grips off, cut the wires and tie them off while installing the new grips.

The grips come apart, internally short out, or stop being heated. All in all, they're probably not the best performers.

Heat Demons work great, work with any grip of your choice, and cost less than half of what HD charges.

Your money, your scoot, you decide.

Harley heated grips are short lived, and a half baked solution for cold weather riding.Look into Gerbing Heated gear,I ride in sub freezing temps all winter with their gauntlets turned on low.I ride with guys who have had their gear for 15 years and up,without a failure.

Installing a set of heated gloves is much easier.
