Is your present motorcycle paid off? Otherwise you could be like a lot of folk's around here with they're big fancy homes.A lot of sandwich, but no ham.
I got $44K in mine so far, it never ends. However I love it. Once you go CVO it's hard to go back to standard Harleys.

Only you can decide if you can swing it. Don't listen to the naysayers that tell you how to go cheap. If they followed their own logic they'd be riding metrics.
If you're in the market for a Ferrari you don't get talked into buying a Corvette.
If you can, invest in Harley stock. I look at it as getting my CVO for free from the stock's profits I've gotten.
I'm under the impression that you owe no one. If you're in debt disregard the above.
$40k? I wouldn't pay that much for a bike, even if I WAS filthy rich. You can't convince me there's $20K worth of speed parts and cosmetic upgrades on that bike. To me, these bikes are compensators.
HarleyRanger..you said they are asking $40,000 as configured, is that out the door or plus tax & reg?? MSRP is $32,699 plus the extras....how much are they marking this up?? You say you are in your early 50's----how many more years do you plan to work anyway?? One last thing, you only live once and you can't take it with you.
$40g was the big number at the bottom of the tag. Not sure if that was out the door or there was tax, title & dealer prep additional to be honest. I sort of recoiled and dropped the tag before examining it too close!
The original plan was to be retired and well to do by age 50 but I missed that goal by a country mile. I plan on working at least 5 more years...
Damn...40K for a bike! And I thought I paid a lot when I dropped 6K for my 84 FLH. More power to you if you can do it. Me, just cannot justify that kind of money.
That being said,,,if you can afford it and it is what you want, then just do it. Your money and you sure as Hell cannot take it with you.

The bike is paid for, but I wouldn't consider myself wealthy. I have several friends who are the 'big hat- no cattle' people with the mCmansions and fancy cars all on credit cards. Not me. I sleep much better when all is paid for even though it's not much.
The angel on my right shoulder is telling me exactly this.
It's the devil on my left shoulder that wants me to buy the bike.
And 'at sumbich usually wins,too....Haha!....Ya know ya want it....fug the naysayer's an' go get it(they'll deal....)...It's a beauty! Whatever ya do...don't ride it....'cause ya WILL take it home, haha!
The "NO!" crowd's always gonna say "NO".....fug'em....and yeah,ya could dump 30K of that 40K in yer bike, but it ain't gonna be THAT bike....and never will....PERIOD
Like the hell out'a my Deuce.....and I sure's hell don't need ta spend $$ but.....it's a good thing I never ran accross a Krypto SE/SG in this area,cause.....?......Hahaha........
