I have to wonder.
I know we're on bikes that are NOT exactly performance-oriented overall, and especially FatBoy/Heritage frames that scrape a corner if you just sneeze...but really:
How many of you tend to ride with the joy of pullin' her over to the boards in nearly every corner, push the sweepers like you were runnin' from the cops and generally just enjoy speed?
It seems like I keep losing riders and am limited to my VERY small group of like-minded friends (all 3 of 'em) when I'm not pulling in the reins to tolerate the geezer-gliders and flower sniffers when we're on a group/club run.
As an ex-dirt racer/Limey & sportster rider, I just tend to do what a bike wants to do - which is EXACTLY why I don't own a crotch rocket. Can't survive the tickets.
But I have put a 2 over fork on her, slug over the spring to keep the head up, darkside rear tire, and stage 1 effects with my own design adjustable baffle set for torque. She's more fun to ride now she doesn't feel like sitting on a toad. Head bolts welded under boards for sliders. Lean angles now very similar to a Sporty, one degree more on one side and 3 less on the other.
You and I could have serious fun on some of the roads out here NorCal has some of the best riding in the country for twisties and curves and non of the typical crap you guys have to deal with like tar snakes , damn few outside the rocket riders ride it like they mean it and most of them it's all straight line crap too . Sometime on that rare occasion you'll come across a stretch that just begs to be ridden out on the edge and I'll oblige , like you say just can't help it gonna happen and the biggest reason I'll never own a geezer glide .
I always say, when I want to ride FAST and AGGRESSIVELY I'll borrow a friend's Busa...
I had the chance to take out a new Ducati last summer and do a "kick the tires & light the fires" ride. Turned it down. I know me. If I have THAT much power under my throttle hand, I'll use it. I know my limitations.
I loved my Busas but they were just no fun at legal speed. A PURE Blast at 150 and scary fun at 180+. 2 tickets and $3000 insurance and $$$$ fines, had to slow down.
Fla. made a law 30 over = Jail. I did 30 over just getting to the on ramp. If you have the power you will use it. I am a speed junkie, all my life I have had the fastest bike in the day.
I crashed big time in 95, rods, pins and wheelchairs. I ride to live and to me speed is medicine, mind and body rush. I will not ride with a group, I say I will meet you there.
I have 1 bud that will keep up and keep going, we cruise and pass everything ahead of us. A Harley @ 4000 rpm is sweet.
