Appreciate all the responses to my concern with the throttle by wire issue. I felt that the lag and lack of real throttle feel with the RGC was not natural. But I'll look into V & H throttle pak and the thunder max system for the RGC.
But I'm still leaning to the Heritage Softail Custom. Ape hangers, fuelling high flow oil pump, S & S direct driver gear, maybe an S & S 583 cam, stage 1 breather kit, new V & H muffler and we're golden for the summer.
If you have electronic fuel injection, the input needs to be in digital form. It doesn't matter whether an analog input is digitized at the ECU or farther up the input stream. If you have lag, it's been programmed into the ECU.
When the Son got his new 10 ST Glide back in 10 he let me ride it soon after. We traded bike and I Killed it twice in the first 4-5 stops we made, it still had stock pipes and I couldn't hear the motor in the group we where in at all.
He did notice the lag at first but when he had the STG 1 and cams with SEPRT and dyno he said the lag went away.
I've had two TBW Harleys with no throttle related issues at all. When riding in a group and you need to maintain spacing, the TBW has a nice sensitive feel making small corrections and makes it easy to make minor adjustments in speed.
The ECU does have several 'adjustments' that pertain to the TBW which can affect how responsive it is in different ranges. You don't need a specific tuner do deal with these -- just one that can reprogram the ECU like the SEPST or TTS.
I've ridden lots of cable bikes and I've noticed no pronounced 'lag' in the TBW. It may vary from bike to bike depending on the ECU programming and the variances in the sending units in the throttle but can be addressed with a 'tuner' if needed.
I have an 07 FLH w/ conventional throttle & a 2010 Tri Glide w/ TBW & I can not tell the difference in preformance between the 2. IMHO TBW is nothing to worry about.
