I was hit in the knuckles by a stone off a truck tire a few years ago. Not only did it really hurt, it opened up a cut that took weeks to heal. I started wearing fingerless gloves all summer after that. I don't really notice them any more. I've felt numerous big bugs and pebbles hit my gloves since then and always say "glad I have the gloves on'. I also think that no matter how little the protection to my hands in a fall they provide, it's still more than no gloves at all.
It has absolutely nothing to do with fashion for me. There's not enough fashion stuff around to make me look good
On real hot days I wear fingerless gloves. I don't feel that my hands are any hotter wearing the gloves. In any weather I always wear some kind of glove. And boots. I've read where they say that the only skin that can't be grafted is your palms and soles of your feet. I need to protect my palms or I wouldn't have any sex life at all.
BINGO !!! we have a winner
grafting cannot be done , elastic skin...the other place is your footsoles.
there is another elastic skin that cannot be grafted ( or enlarged)
I wear carbon fiber work gloves (Harbor F.) to protect my hands should I fall. The OP must not have seen some posts recently on what a hand without a glove looks like when it slides on pavement.
That looks like a good reason to wear gloves. But the main reason I wear them, is the "Where do I put my gas cap " thread said I should I have a pair, so I could lay them on my seat and put the gas cap on them.

DewMe, just like some other people on here, you lack a little in the area of comprehension as well as sarcasm. I originally wanted to know seriously why those who wore them, did. And, yes, I figured it was mainly for protection, as I said in my post. Why do you think I don't get it? You missed that as well as my sarcasm about the guys wearing them all over the place when they're not riding. I personally think they look a little ridiculous. Wait, let me think, maybe they just don't have a place to put them? Yup, that's it, won't tuck anywhere on the bike or maybe it's just that their bags are full to the brim. In any event, thanks for everyone's input, maybe I myself should give a little more attention to safety gear.
