As Jay said......
Chaps are safety equipment, not a fashion statement.

Get heavy-weight leather. They should fit snug. When standing, they should touch the ground, as they will be the right length when you're riding. Heavy duty metal zippers. Try to avoid the 'designer' crap that you will see in some biker shops.....thin leather, fringes, conchos, baggy fit etc.

Be prepared to pay for the good quality 'rider' chaps......they are worth it.
If you've ever taken a 'slider' you will appreciate getting good chaps, and gloves.......happy trails, Greg

No, I do not ride in chaps in hot weather. No freaking way. I have owned a pair for years, but rarely wear them. Really, the only thing I like about them is they pack small so I often bring them on trips and they have made my ride a little more comfortable when I am surprised by cold or wet weather. Personally, I do really think of them as road rash protection, I am as attached to the skin on my rear end as much as I am the skin on my legs so I wear kevlar lined jeans for protection....put I rarely wear those when it is really hot out either.

I work in an office. Standard business casual kahki's and dress shirt. Under 75 I wear them as I can flip them off in 5 seconds as soon as I pull into garage. Go back on just as easy. Unzip boots and slide on dress shoes from under desk. Works for me. I ride my bike any day it isn't pouring or ice on the road.

For cold weather, I have Fox Creek chaps, USA made and pretty heavy. Cost me $50 on Ebay. No way I'd pay for new chaps.

I wear Bohn under the pants armor. I only break out the chaps when going on a ride with the Vilage People. (just a joke people, to each their own)

+1 on this. All depends on the distance, regardless of temps.
