Default Riser Questions / Help

What is the difference in risers for a springer (crossbones) and a standard front end and why? I stripped the clamp on my Crossbones about a year ago. I was able to use a longer bolt that let go on its own yesterday. I am now left with the decision to replace riser or helicoil. I am thinking about going a little taller riser rather than going with a taller set of apes. Everywhere I look they separate springer from standard for risers. WHY? what is the difference? I want to understand before I jump in the deep end...
Thanks for any and all help.
