Default Need some advice..

Hey folks,

New member here. Love this board and have been watching the board for some time. I am really wanting a hog bad but I am not a very experienced rider. I had a jap bike (750 honda) back in '85-'86 but had to sell it cause I was getting married and needed the cash. Anyways I was recently diagnosed with kidney failure and I am on dialysis (freaking blows but keeps me alive). I really want to get back to feeling the breeze on my knees and the wind on my face. I never felt so alive back then and want to capture that now. Do you think a Road King Classic would be too much for me? I'm 5' 11", 250 LBS, 41 y/oand in not too bad a shape all things considered. I have been looking at some and got my *** on one or 2, but kinda nervous that it might be too much for me. Any comments from you all would be most welcomed.

I think if you could handle a Honda 750 then you'll be surprized how easy to handle a Road King is now.

The hardest thing about getting your RoadKing will be the waiting. Once you let the clutch out for the first time and realize that it's not going to jump up and down with you you'll be fine.
You could always rent one at a dealer to see what you think. Some dealers even have test ride days so go check them out and get some breeze on your knees.
And good luck with the dialysis.

You could rent one for a day or go to a shop where they offer test rides.I believe you need a motorcycle license.

Basicly was thinking the same way you are. I had a Honda 450 back in 1983 sold it for the same reasons what a mistake. Then waited 23 years before lookimg again. At first I was not sure if I could handle a RoadKing either. Well 1700 miles later my RoadKing and I can not wait for better weather. Remeber you only live once go for it but make sure you are comfortable and ride safe

You are tall enough that any bike will fit you. If you want an RK, g'head and get one. I'd do some ride testing if'n I were you.

Stay well

yeah, a road king would be cool. I'd suggest, though, a road king standard. It has hard bags that lock, the solid mag type wheels, and a more comfortable seat. The classic has leather bags that are easy to scratch, bunch up in time, don't lock, and are generally a pain in the azz. I've had a couple of em, so I know about it. The seat andhandlebarsare probably the most uncomfortableever. The laced wheels are a pain to clean, and you have to have a tube, so you can't plug the tire, or use fix a flat on the road.

best deal, though, is probably an Electra Glide Classic. It's the bike you wish you'd have bought, in a few months.

well, that or a Road Glide. Ugly as they are, they do ride good.
