Default Advice on new tank preparation.

I posted this in another forum last night and should have done it here i think. Im headed out today to get some sealer for the inside of the tank and was wandering if all brands are the same? Instructions also call for having it pressure checked. Do most shops have the ability to check the pressure or any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any imput. I may just clearcoat it until i can afford to have flatblack scallops on vivid black tank. By the looks of the seam, rattle can won't cover the seam up so, she may be run naked for a bit till I save up $ for the paint shop.

I have been reading some horror stories about using the sealant and now I don't know if I will use it at all. I may just vet it pressure checked at my local radiator shop ( maybe 4psi) which show show if I have any pinholes and run it. What would you guys suggest?

Do not use tank liners if you can at all avoid it. Some of them work better than others, like RedKote, but sooner or later they all start to peal.

I always pressure tested my tanks for leaks. If I found any I had them tig welded or I used lead and a torch to fill them in. If you shim the tank properly at installation you won't place stress on the mounts which can cause cracks and leaks.

Here's a simple pressure testing cap I made and have used for years. One for the gas hole one for the petcock hole. Inflate with about 5 lbs of air, spary the tank down with soapy water and if you have any leaks you'll see bubbles. Repair as required.

IF you are going to coat the tank, the product I would recommend is from Caswell plating, it works great.

I've had good luck with the KBS liner. Prep is the key. Have it pressure tested at the radiator shop first.

So I just left the shop and I'll be picking up my tank tomorrow. I'll have better pics in next few days.

Pics dont do justice. I did not line it...just pressure checked.
