Default Oil filter removal

I have been searching through all these threads and can't seem to find anything on this. How do you guys keep from spilling oil all over the place when you remove it? I have tried everything I can think of,any ideas would be appreciated. TIA

I put shop rags under the area where the oil filter mounts up and then a simple piece of cardboard kinda bent in a u ish shape that extends out past the down tube. Remove the oil filter. Primitive yes, but it works and I don’t spill any oil on the bike.

Tin foil with paper towel or shop rags under filter in a cup shape, then slip a ziplock over filter after breaking it loose. Even then there is still a mess to clean up.

I drain the oil out of the engine first , removing the oil filler cap helps . Believe it or not , I use a plastic pop bottle which is cut in half vertically and cut around the bottom a little so it fits under the filter .

Tried this using everything from paper plates to a thin piece of aluminum. Rags underneath it,drllied a hole in the filter and still can't seem to keep from spilling.
Also tried the contraption from the dealer and with it in place I couldn't spin the filter off.
Im starting to think it is inevitable that I am going to make a mess. My old sporty had a vertical filter. I guess that was just too simple.lol

I do too and also lean the bike over to the right. That helps get more out of the pan but not the filter.
The pop bottle idea sounds like it is worth a try. Do you use a 2 litre or 20oz

2 lt it is , had to cut a couple of them to get it just right . I also find it helps to loosen the filter before putting the tray under it , then you can spin it off easier with the tray in place .

I've never had any luck with those orange funnels with the hose attached. I end up throwing them across the garage. The best I've ever gotten is by using thin coated cardboard. The kind that a part comes vacuum sealed on? I cut it so it's about half the circumference of the filter and long enough to clear the frame, and then pinch a "V" in the drain end. Holding it tight against the filter mount while unscrewing and draining gets just about all of the oil. That's after draining the motor and with the bike on the jiffy stand.
