Default Handlebar grips

Hey guys was just wondering if any of you folks have changed your grips? I got myself a new pair of the "flame" chrome ones and was wondering if you guys used glue or any other tips on fitting or changing them.

Thanks in advance

Personally I don't care about the grips coming off, if I need to cut them I will. As far as going on, make sure the area is clean and dry and then I spray some hair spray into the nedd grip and pop it on. Make sure you have it in the right direction(design wise-skulls would be up and down at rest) wait about half an hour or so, works best if you can give it overnight to coagulate inside the grip.
Good luck
Woody

My grips were HD and they have a flange on them that holds them in the switch housings. So, no glue needed for those. If they don't have that, then use the hairspray or rubber cement or epoxy if you really want them to stay.

I also did not use glue.
I mean you only glue the left one on and they both have flanges to hold them there.
Get some extra brass ferrules just in case.

Very easy to do the right grip. Do you have a service manual for your bike?

No matter what job I'm doing, I like to read the manual and check with forum members about possible problems I could run into.

I recently put some Iso Grips on my Train and it was a breeze! You should at least read over the paper work that came with the grips. That should be sufficient.

Good luck. Let us know how ya make out!

Let me check my memory banks here.................

Lets see, I remember pulling bach the sleeve and measuring or marking where the lock nut is so that when I'm done I can tighten the cable back to it's original position.

I'm still thinkin about the job I did on my bike................Hmmm!

THanks for the help spyder, job complete. Trickier than expected as the return throttle cable came loose from the assembly between the V's of the engine and had to take out air filter and carb to get it back in. Ok now though and the flame grips look great

Cool man! Glad it worked out. Do your self a favor though and invest in a manual. It's worth the $50 bucks!
