Default Oil pump

I finally got my oil pump off to clean it out on my 96 fxdwg. I got it all back in and now I can't get that damn circlip back on the shaft because the shaft slides in the gearcase! (What a STUPID design!) <-:

Anyway... I found this thread and the user had to remove the gearcase cover, pushrods, rocker boxes, etc!

Is there a easier way to get that circlip back on without having to remove all that other stuff in the process?

Thanks.

you just have to use a small screw driver in the grove to hold the shaft out and then install the clip ! make sure you torque the pump to specks !
