I have a 98 FLHRCI has stage 2 kit in it sense new great bike never an issue until I had to replace the lifter cover gaskets not the 1st time for this put it back together fuel pump is not working put in new fuel pump fires right up ran great for about a month then out riding one day get about 17 miles it starts spitting like i am running out of gas ( I had filled up before i took off) and dies. would not start back up. have it towed home won't fire up check everything find out it blew a fuse great replace the fuse fires right up. Great go to take off as soon as it gets a load on it it starts to pop and spit thought I might need to blow it out a bit did that got it going down the back roads just in case it ran fine about 8 miles. I stopped turned it off then back on fires right back then it does the same thing pops spits under load then pops the fuse again. i have done this twice now checked for something not properly grounded or a broken wire can't figure it out. any Ideas would definitely be appreciated.
Check for bubbles or squirting inside the tank. The fuel hoses develop pinholes and act like it is low on fuel. Essentially it is because it is leaking inside the tank and you don't have enough fuel pressure. I had the same issue on my 2003 FI FLHRCI, as have many others.
As others have stated most likely an intermittent short in the fuel pump wiring power circuit or the pump itself. A leaking hose would not cause the pump fuse to blow.
does the pump assy come with a new pressure relief???
if the relief sticks closed, it will load the pump and possibility of blowing the fuse and since the injectors go rich and the ecu cannot control the excess, machine will balk.
