Default Intermittent low idle problem.

The bike I'm referring to is the one in my sig. A few days ago I went on a short ride ( 40 miles ) and about half way through the ride when I was in a little traffic I noticed my bike would idle very slowly when I pulled the clutch in and let off the throttle. Almost stalled a couple times but I kept it running by rolling the throttle. Headed back home and everything seemed fine and it idled fine when I pulled into the garage. Rode a couple other times the next two days with no problems. Took it on a 200 mile trip yesterday and after 70 miles or so she started acting up again. Not a hot day. Around 80 degrees. It would happen when I came to a stop or had to make a slow turn letting off the throttle. Couple of times it stalled and I had to twist the throttle to get it started. Bike ran fine on the open road. When we got to our destination and were in traffic it got even worse. Downshifting from 4th to 3rd to 2nd I could tell from the exhaust sound that it wasn't running (firing). Anyway, we stopped, had a burger and a beer and looked at some bikes for a couple of hours so my bike was cooled down when we decided to leave. (It was around 78 degrees out and I checked my oil temp when we arrived and it was 225 degrees). Go to start it and I still had the same problem. I had to twist the throttle while turning it over to get it to start. Headed home and when we got into town we stopped for a moment to stretch and then go our seperate ways. Its now about 9:00 pm and 65 degrees. I start my bike and it starts normal and idling is normal. Drive another 18 miles to my home and it was idling fine when I pulled into my garage. I've got a big ride planned this coming weekend and I'd like to get this figured out. Input is greatly appreciated.

One other note: My bike was dyno tuned,(not using o2 sensors any more) headwork and a cam change (andrews 54h) this spring and it has run very well the past 1800 miles 'til now. The only thing I've noticed myself is that this problem seems to have come on with warmer temperatures.

Thanks in advance......Mike

Have you cleaned the IAC port in the throttle body?
If yes the throttle plate adjuster screw could need attention (loose?)

Haven't cleaned the port. Will try to get how to info. Is there a temp sensor that could be acting up?

Most likely the IAC. It stands for idle air control if you are wondering. If you take the air cleaner off your bike and look into the throttle body you will see a small hole in the throat on the top. Turn the bike to run and cycle the throttle while spraying some Sea Foam or throttle body cleaner into the small hole. You will see all kinds of black crap come flowing out of it. Use a clean rag and try to keep it from running down into your intake. Or you can do it with the bike running and it will run like crap while you suck in through the motor and blow it out the exhaust. What you are cleaning is the IAC pintle that controls your bikes air intake while at idle. They get gunked up and sticky and should be cleaned at every service IMHO.

I don't think it is fuel related because I've fueled up at different places when this problem occured.

Yeah I remember setting the IAC stops when I first got my T-max a few years back. I'll try cleaning the IAC tomorrow and see what happens. TPS did cross my mind. Will check that next if its not the IAC.

By cycling the throttle do you mean to push the run button from off to on a few times while the ignition is on?

Thanks guys.

Yeah that works. I normally run the bike and shoot some Sea Foam through it and blow some carbon out of it at the same time. I have gone back to a carb bike now and don't have to screw with the IAC anymore.
