We go through this in the photography business. Buy a new camera realizing it will be superseded by a new model in a few months. If you wait for the new model you'll never get a new camera. In the case of PV I think it'll be DJ's flagship tuner for a while. Remember that the PCV was introduced two years ago, with AT coming out only a few weeks later, and that was their latest offering. In the ensuing months I think we'll see PV mature with apps and features added that'll make it even more versatile. I'm looking forward to working with it.
That is so very true, when the latest electronic gizmo hits the shelves it seems it's pretty much obsolete already...NEVER look back. BTW, can you give advice on an under $150 point & shoot w/some decent optical zoom and low light capability? I just need something handy on the bike.

I'm a prior SEPST owner on my 2010 SE Ultra and also decided to go to the PV. I purchased the PV from Jamie at FuelMoto several weeks ago. I mounted it to the handlebar and took it in for a dyno tune. The tuner just called me and the bike is done. He's says I will be very pleased with the performance. More details to follow in a separate thread to include pics of the mount, dyno charts and a writeup on my experience. I hope to have the new thread posted before the end of the weekend.

I have a Nikon P5000 I bought used from KEH Camera for $100 two years ago and it is perfect for bike trips. It has been superseded by the P6000 and now the P7000, of course. KEH has two P6000's, but the price is above your $150 budget. Frankly, I don't keep up with the point-and-shoot market at all, but what I did was ask a friend and amateur photographer who had bought a P5000 for himself and recommended it.
You could check with Consumer Reports and go with their recommendation, but I doubt if you'll make a bad buy from among the major players (Nikon, Canon, etc.). I wouldn't hesitate buying a used camera from a respected dealer (like KEH, B&H photo, etc.). Both of these have a large selection and if you'll check with DP Review you'll find many reviews on current and older cameras.

I just made some spark-advance changes based on four datalogs I've created, specifically the Knock Retard tables. Since detonation seems to be inconsistent in terms of amount of retard required for given points on the RPM-KPA graph, there is consistency that some retard happens in predictable places and I've made changes with no attempt made to eliminate incipient knock completely. I just want to keep it low and well within the knock-retard limit, in my case set to 8° (stock setting). Jamie told me as long as it is within the maximum and I don't hear audible detonation I'm okay, and I don't hear any.

I heard they just hired an ace head tech. I think in the near future they're going to be the leading outfit for all performance work from tuners to most engine upgrades, that is if they're not at that point now. When I first started buying from them four years ago they sold the basics and weren't making any of their own products.

Not to be a stick-in-the-mud in the thread I started, but if the PCIII is giving you good performance I would keep it. PV is nice and serves a purpose for some, but I would make sure it will solve some problems that you are having. One salvation for many of us is that it will import PCIII and PCV maps ('07 and earlier only), so if you have a good map already you can start-out with a good tune to begin with, then tweak from there. The display unit is a big plus for me, as I like the useful info it can provide in real time.
