To check for voltage at ignition fuse the black lead goes to the negative terminal on the battery and then check both sides of the clips that hold the fuse in with the red wire.
You should get 12+ volts if you don't then that is a no.
I'm getting 12+ on left side clip, >1 on right. Checked some others and kind of the same thing...left side clip is always 12+, right less than that. So...I'm going to go down "no" path which says "go to 4.10 no ECM power"....??? That can't be right can it?
Did also notice LIGHTS fuse was blown again...not sure when that happened, but replaced it and tried everything again. Still no signals, but everything else fine. Fuse did not reblow.
I'm not expert enough to say there could not have been a fire in the bars, but seems like I would have smelled something and/or more stuff wouldn't be working.
Pulled bars and right side controls. I don't see anything obvious with the wires. The tip of white/black us twisted a little, but still fit in connector fine. This is the wire that starts as 3 and goes to 1.
Looking closer I do see a tiny nick in the gray wire. Best way to repair?? What can I do to test while out?
Just put the pins back in the connector and plug it in without pulling wires through bar.
Your only testing so it will be alright as long as everything is plugged in.
Make sure the wires go back into the correct hole you can check the color of the wire on the female side to be sure you didn't mix the colors up.
Best way to repair - slide some heat shrink up to cover the nick
Update: put pins back in connector. Reconnected everything on the bike. Right side controls outside the bars. Turned to ignition, all previous stuff still worked and front right signal light was on. Progress!
Hit the blinker button and nothing happens in front or back blinkers. Left blinker button does nothing either and left light is not on.
Pushed in right bulb to jockey it a bit to see if that would do something and blew the LIGHT fuse. Did it all a second time for good measure.
Well you know your going to have to pull the left side now as well.
Yeah, I figured as much. Pulled them this morning, inspected and put them back in the connector and hooked back up outside the bars. The only thing that might be a little funky was the yellow/black wire was a little twisted, other than that, nothing that I see.
So, I've got the right and left connectors hooked up outside the bars. Turned everything on. Now left light turns on, right does not. Blinker button results in nothing. I jiggle the left bulb a bit, it will turn on/off as I mess with it. Try to do something with right side and it blows a fuse as soon as I move it a tiny bit.
Damn...it just seems like it's gotta be something right in front of me, but I'm not smart enough! Really hoping to get this figured out "on my own"...without having to take it somewhere.
