i remembered that you lived in south texas before.did you ever make it to padre island.i bet youve been there more than me.the bad thing about the rio grande valley is that you have to tie everything down or someone will steal it.
I visited SPI about 1-3 times a month, about 60 miles ride...nice place... Bikerfest and sandcastle completion...Springbreak...nice bikes, girls, cars and partys.
I never had problems keeping my stuff safe... I was working part of my time in mexican side...
Don't know if this will help or just add to the confusion, I bought a new XLCH in 1970. I stiil have it and the original owners manual, the manual lists three grades of HD oil: 1.medium heavy grade 75 ( above 40 deg.)
2.special light grade 58 ( below 40 degrees )
3.regular heavy 105 (severe operating conditions at high air temps.)
In about 1971 I asked the dealer what the HD numbers meant, I wrote this in my owners manual at that time. I was told that HD 75 was 40 wt., HD 58 was 20 wt. and that HD 105 was 60 wt. The person that told me this had worked at that dealer since 1956, I have never read anything that changed my mind on this. I used valvoline racing oil in mine ( 40 wt.) here in Virginia summer and winter and never had a problem. I did put some 10-40 Valvoline in it one time in the spring, I could actually FEEL the difference in engine heat, rode it about 2 miles and went home and changed it !
