Undecided on what to do here. Use em or replace em and hope I end up with a nice set. They were porous and I hoped polishing them would work a miracle but it didn't. Am I placing too much importance on the most important part of a knucklehead engine?

If they are original I'd run 'em. And if someone gets that close up and goes, "Oh look how porous these head are!..." just put a fast foot in their **** while they are bent over and tell them to kindly move along

They might get a porous knuckle sandwich if I timed the kick right haha. I dont mind flaws, shows its real but I just wish they were nicer - one can wish.

I know enough about the chrome plating process to be dangerous, but couldn't they fill them before the other layers of what, Zinc, copper, and then the shiny stuff? I think they use the copper plating to smooth everything out, but again, I'm like "thin ice with heated sneakers" dangerous here.

If you mean the rocker boxes, they're polished aluminum. If they were chrome I could get them perfect.

Experimented on a 45 cap today to see how to get them apart to go about restoring an original. Chrome on the outside, cad on the inside. The right ones are crazy money ($500+ each with dents) but Im going to have to bite the bullet and get a pair for this bike at least.

Ah! That explains everything!
Didn't know they were polished aluminum, but that makes sense. Thinking about it, chroming was in limited use back then, right?
Again, more great information through these threads. Thanks!

Chrome was only limited from 42-46. Chroming aluminum as far as I know has never been successful long term compared to other metals.
